Shepherd of the Hills is a member congregation of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).

Our church body is characterized as theologically conservative.

WELS is the third largest Lutheran church body in America.

With national offices in Milwaukee, WI, our church body consists of more than 1,200 congregations spread across the United States and Canada.

WELS serves a membership of nearly 400,000 people.

The word “synod” refers to a group of Christians who “walk together” because they share the same beliefs.

  • A synod is nothing other than a large congregation joining together to do God’s work.

  • We send out missionaries to preach the Word of God around the world.

  • We are actively involved in medical missions and other humanitarian efforts.

  • We train men and women to be future pastors, teachers, missionaries, and staff ministers.

  • We own and operate two prep schools, one college, and one seminary.

Shepherd of the Hills is “us” on a local level; WELS is “us” on a national and global level.
